Switzerland, France, Germany and the Netherlands - Rhine River Cruise - Luxury: Scenic ***** Trek ***

After our experience with the Puglia Tour we opted to join one of Trek Tours' new Bike and Cruise tours run in conjunction with Scenic Cruises. This was another luxury bike tour with seven nights on a Scenic River Boat travelling along the Rhine from Basel to Amsterdam, with day times spent riding along the Rhine and seeing the sights. As with Puglia, we had two guides and a minibus to look after us during the day. Breakfasts, dinners, drinks, night time entertainment and accommodation were provided by Scenic and were first class. We were again on Trek Domane road bikes still without disc brakes. Our riding started positively with us bussed to a mountain top outside Basel and our first ride being from there to the river boat back in Basel. This was the start of a week of riding that had a few highlights and several lowlights with the guides seeming to find unreasonable excuses not to include features advertised in the tour itinerary and unable to keep all the riders together. The riding group was relatively large with 17 riders including the guide and on many days the group would be allowed to split into the fast and slowish groups and the guide of the day would often ride with the younger, faster group and ignore the slower group until we were nearing destinations. We departed the tour with mixed feelings as we had really enjoyed the Scenic part and had enjoyed once some elements of the Trek part.  

I was unable to find this tour while looking to create a link to the Trek site.  It would seem that the combined tours with Scenic are no longer offered.
